In January 2023, I became the shorts producer for James Lawrence Allcott.
James had been uploading YouTube shorts for four months prior to this, and gained 300,000 views in that time. In the first month of becoming shorts producer and applying the new strategy, we gained 4.2 million views.
Overall, across the eight months in this role, we gained 30 million views on YouTube shorts and brought in 21,000 new subscribers.
Youtube Strategy
Coming into the new 2023/24 football season, we analysed the channel as a team and figured how we could elevate the reach of our YouTube videos.
After putting forward new ideas for titles and thumbnails, analysing the channel's audience and looking at close competitors, we came up with a content strategy for the new season.
The first video of that season became the channel's fourth most viewed video in under 3 weeks, with another video uploaded on 31st July becoming the channel's third most popular video in under 48 hours.
In the first three months with the new content strategy, we’ve gained 5.8 million views, compared to the same period in the previous year which gained 3.6 million.
From the top 12 most viewed videos on the channel, eight of them are from the 2023/24 season when the new strategy was applied.
